Home Master Under sink Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System Review

Not too often do we get to hear about or even test an under-the-sink water filter that comes with Reverse Osmosis technology, that too at a price that can blow non-RO water filters out of the water. The Home Master under-sink RO is an interesting water filter, and we got to understand it and test all the claims the company makes about it. But, does the low price bring any extra compromise with the filtration or quality? Could it be the best under-sink water filtration system for your home? Let’s find out.

What You Get In The Box?

View Latest Price

The filtration system came in a simple, brown box along with the normal packaging. So you get the filtration unit, a large water storage tank (as RO needs a water storage unit), RO adapter, drain saddle, a 3/8″ feed-water adapter with a shut-off valve, along with an instruction manual. The content was well packed, and there was no difficulty in understanding anything about the filter. So it would be easy for an average person to understand it as well.

Installation

The installation process could be a little complicated for some people, but not too complicated. For us, we did need some plumbing equipment, brackets, and a few more things, mostly run-of-the-mill stuff, nothing too complex. And since this is an under-the-sink water filter, there might be some issue with space if you have a tiny under-sink compartment. It is mostly due to the large water storage tank that fits next to the filter. Also, it would be best if you had an active power supply socket for the RO to work. We’d give it an okayish 3-stars in terms of installation convenience.

Filtration

Now let’s come to the most important part of the filter; how good the water filtration is. On paper, this water filter is one of the most impressive water filters that we have seen or tested. It comes with a 7-stage water filtration system that can clean some of the most contaminated water.

The first filter clears the water of most of the larger sediments. It is a dedicated sediment filter. The second filter is a catalytic carbon filter that removes most of the dissolved chemicals such as chlorine, chloramine, VOCs, and fluorides. It removes other toxic metals such as lead, arsenic, mercury, etc. It also comes with a coconut shell carbon filter to improve the taste and odor of water. But what was really impressive about this filter as it comes with an amazing and industry-first 0.0001-micron filter. Most of the filters come with a .5 micron. It results in better filtration.

But the star of the show here is the reverse osmosis filter that comes with it. Reverse Osmosis units are quite expensive because of the excellent filtration they provide. RO works a little bit differently than simple filtration. RO uses active filtration where very small amounts of contaminants cannot be filtered using simple filtration methods. RO actively removes these contaminants, purifying the water to extreme levels.

Home Master Undersink Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System User Review

The filter can remove 99% of more than 1000 contaminants. It is a great water filter and clearly one of the most powerful filters that we have seen. But this is what the company claims. Does it perform as the company claims? We tested it thoroughly with water that was as contaminated as it could get. The levels of arsenic, lead, mercury, chlorine, and other VOCs were way off the limit. The TDS level of the water was 650, which is 550 more than the acceptable levels.

After running the filter around 20 times a day, we did not see any drop in the efficiency or water output. We could also see the benefit of using a 7-stage filtration system as we have tried a similarly contaminated sample of water (not as this much) with a basic filter, and it could not process it well. But the Home Master RO filter is a different story.

When it comes to filtration, it is a beast. The TDS levels went down from an unacceptable 650 to a meager 72. This level of TDS removal is unheard of. There was no amount of lead or arsenic in the water, which is expected and necessary as even trace amounts of lead and arsenic are dangerous for us. Chlorine and chloramine removal stood at a great 96-97%, while fluoride removal was at a decent 95%. The filter also cleared the water of most of the dissolved chemicals, herbicides, and pesticides.

Home Master Undersink Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System Review

Apart from the technical parts of filtration, we are glad to say that it works wonderfully well with the water’s taste, odor, and texture. The water sample was, needless to say, undrinkable. It had a bad smell, and the entire sample was cloudy and turbid. But what came out of the filter was nothing but crystal clear water that tastes like packaged water.

One great feature about this filter is there is a remineralization technology that helps improve the water quality and taste. Due to excessive filtering with a .0001 micron filter and the reverse osmosis process, many of the important minerals present in the water are also removed. The filter smartly adds the minerals back, improving the quality.

For filtration, our overall assessment is this; The filter is very capable, and the quality of water after filtration is great. For most of the common contaminants found in US water supplies, this will work effortlessly and efficiently. Easily a five-star in terms of filtration.

So this was all about the filtration and installation. We tested it thoroughly and spent many days with the filter, using it as a daily water filter, almost forgetting that we were testing it. Here are the pros and cons that we experienced.

What We Loved About this Product?

Pros
  • Price
  • Filtration
  • Filtration Capacity
  • Cheap Filtration Capacity
  • Permeate Pump Addon
Cons
  • Bulky
  • Minor Quality Issues

1. Price

The price has to be the biggest pro for this filter. You would not believe the cost of this filter. The Home Master Undersink RO costs just $285! Yes, that is the price of a 7-stage filter with a reverse osmosis unit. Normally, a 3 to 5 stage water filter with an RO unit costs double this price. So if you are looking for a powerful water filter at an affordable price, look no further.

2. Filtration

The price might make someone believe that there might be some compromise in the filtration, but it is exactly the opposite. The filtration of this unit is one of the best that we have ever seen. It is, in fact, as good as some filters that cost more than $600. It is rare to find a 7-stage water filter that comes with a reverse osmosis unit.

3. Filtration Capacity

Since this is an RO unit, we were expecting to see a lower filtration capacity than most of the passive filters (without RO). But we are glad to say that this filter will clean 2,000 gallons of water, making the filter last easily for almost a year. It is not a massive number, but do note that most of the RO filters offer lesser filtration capacity.

4. Cheap Filtration Replacement

The replacement filters are also very cheap, costing just around $80. Most of the filter replacements cost almost 90% of the actual cost of the entire filter. So you don’t have to worry about spending a fortune every year replacing the filters.

5. Permeate Pump Addon

The only issue with a reverse osmosis filtration system is that it can generate a lot of water waste, which is not good for the environment or your family. Since the filtration requires a different section of water to dump all the contaminants, this contaminated water can be a lot in volume. The permeate pump addon can reduce this water waste by a staggering 50%—a very useful addon.

What We Did Not Like?

Not all was good and great about this water filter. There were a few things that we did not like, although none of these cons is a deal-breaker. You can call them “coms” rather than “cons” as these are the compromises you need to deal with for the low price. Here are the things we did not like about the Home Master Undersink RO filter.

1. Bulky

With the 7-stage filtration unit and the large water tank, the entire system is a big, bulky unit that will not fit easily if you have small under-sink storage space. It takes a good amount of space, so keep in mind that you won’t be able to keep anything else in that space. But it won’t be an issue if there’s a good amount of space.

2. Minor Quality Issues

There is no issue with the filtration, but we did notice a little bit of inferior build quality. It wasn’t too bad, but the quality of plastic and hoses could have been better. Also, it lacked the “density” that makes a product feel premium. But other than that, everything was okay with the filter.

Home Master Under Sink Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System

Home Master Under sink Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System comes at a affordable price, It comes with a 7-stage water filtration system that can clean some of the most contaminated water, One of the most impressive fact about this filter is that it comes with an amazing and industry-first 0.0001-micron filter, resulting in far much better filtration than many xyz companies.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we have very few complaints about the filter and a lot of praise for it. It makes it a great choice for many people who want to get great filtration at a great price. At under $300, it is hard for anyone to find something so good at filtration. Yes, the quality of the product will be a bit lacking, but that is something that comes with the low price tag. We are glad that the compromise was done in the build quality and not the filtration.
